Buckeyes start at 16 in Hoops Coaches poll
#61
Ohio State really looked great in 76-51 blowout.   I want to see Gaffney and Liddell come along and play well.

I was out for the evening and logged on to check the score.....was shocked that they ran Villanova the way they did. WOW. Now, they aren't going to shoot 60%/55%on three's every game, but I think this game shows the potential that they do have.

Buckeye hoopsters now #5 team in the country, according to Sagarin. Not bad for an NIT-caliber squad.

Could we be looking at Double Nattys this year? A guy can dream lol

I doubt that, but this is not an NIT team and Wesson is not an overweight buffon.   He is legit.  SOME don't follow the team enough or OTHER teams enough to know who is good or bad during the present season.

I only read box scores. I haven't watched a Buckeyes bball game since it lost to UCLA in the NCAA Tournament in the 1980's. I think Louisville won the NC that season.

I agree. If tOSU bball team is ranked #5 it is overachieving.

Did you read the box score from last night?   How can you tell anything from not watching games?  What do you think after reading the box score now about OSU?

JUST so you know, since that game in the 1980s Ohio State has played in several final fours, several elite eights, wons MANY Big Ten championships many sweet 16s,  and beaten North Carolina in the tourney, Syracuse, Duke in regular season, Georgetown in the tourney, UK, Gonzaga, etc.   Put many in pros too.

I didn't know tOSU played until I saw this thread. I'll read the box score.

How many NCAA Tournament championships did it win during those years since the 1980's? 0 because tOSU bball teams are not closers. <---this is exactly what I mean by NIT type team. Good one game, awful the next. Season after season this seems to be tOSU bball teams outcome. tOSU could go 35-1 and its only loss in the Finals and I'd still consider it a NIT type team. I like closers. Runner ups get a set of steak knives for a reason.

Well, then there are many teams who are not closers in your mind, which is fine.  I would disagree that a school who loses in championship game to Florida, or semi to UConn, or to Kansas, or in Elite 8 to UK or wins multiple Big Ten championships and advances to sweet 16 are not NIT schools.  Going 35-1 in definitely not NIT.  Please, you are better than this.   I'd encourage you to watch a game and enjoy the contest.  This why I watch sports.  It's entertainment.

The whole 'closers' argument is laughable to me. I have a friend, bama fan, who has the same mentality. Bama could go 12-1 this year with a Sugar bowl win over Oklahoma and he would consider the season a failure.

life's too short to have that viewpoint. Zig is right, sports is entertainment.

Kentucky hasn't won a NCAA tournament in almost 7-8 years , Yet probably leads all of College BB with 1st round NBA Draft Picks, Lottery Picks and total number of NBA players Drafted in that time span.
Damn NIT Program ought to just give up BB

I would add that in EVERY sport if you use LRRPs logic EACH year you only have ONE closer.   That is really silly.   Teams compete, teams can be great in competing and come up short but there is room for only ONE champion and that is fine.  Ohio State has a really good coach and team in Holtmann leading the way and nothing to be ashamed of.

Hell their own AD didn't .

They are still part of a very small group of D1 Schools that have Won a College BB Title, College football Title and College Baseball Title. if you throw in a College Wrestling Title they might be the only D1 School to pull off that Quad ever.

I really think LRRPS is the only person worrying about that ONE title OSU has in basketball.  Rest of us are more interested in the team we have today.  Make sense?
