Amy Winehouse
#1
Any fans of her here? I have to say I barely noticed her when she was alive, and then when I heard of her passing...until recently.  I have read a lot of comparisons of my girl Samantha Fish to Winehouse, so I decided to check her music out. She was quite talented, tremendous voice and a distinctive and unique style. Not unattractive either, despite her tattoo infested body.

But not quite in the same league, musically, as Samantha.

Heard of Winehouse but never of Fish.

Her style of music is not one that I generally listen to, but I think she is very talented. Her song Rehab is the irony of all ironies

If you like blues-influenced rock and roll (think cross between SRV and the Stones, with that Winehouse touch) you're missing out. Getting ready to see her next month when she comes to Detroit. It will be the 4th time in 10 months, so I'm approaching groupie status lol. Anyway, she's the best combination of vocals and guitar talent I've ever heard. And from two conversations I've had with her (she takes 30-45 minutes after each show to talk with her fans) she's a down to earth, humble young lady.

I have no idea why, but Amy Winehouse showed up on my YouTube feed. I really only know one song - Rehab.

The video I watched was the last song of her last performance before she died. Not knowing what song it was, I googled some of the lyrics and found it was Back in Black. REALLY good song.

Below is the original music video and the same song she did live before dying. She was clearly a sh1t show at the end of her life:

She was a junkie then she went to rehab and became a hardcore alcoholic instead. Definitely a great talent, but a total mess.

Her personal problems notwithstanding, she was probably the greatest vocal talent I've ever heard.

Amazing voice and equally amazing mess. In some ways, she reminds me of Whitney Houston.

She had a great voice but her musical arranger/producer is responsible for matching that voice to a great style and creating a winner.

Samantha Fish has a really nice sound.

A little more rock, same amount of blues as Nora Jones, one of my favorites

No longer GroupThink 'woke'.  but it was fun while it lasted.
