What are you reading? I just started Sword vs. Scimitar, a history of Christian-Muslim military conflict between Muhammadâ€s rise to the Siege of Vienna in 1683. Victor Davis Hanson wrote the forward intro. Iâ€m also listening to Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin.

My 21 year old, for some weird reason, brought home some Spam (actual spam. the "meat.") last night. I actually made myself 2 sandwiches. Pretty good. Then I woke up at 4AM with a scorching case of acid reflux. (((SHUDDER))) Yeah, THAT will be the end of the great Spam experiment in my house.

I even chased it with the greatest soft drink ever invented---Vernors. Isn't Vernors also supposed to help settle your stomach? I feel misled here. This could be a lawsuit in the making. This is America. It HAS to be someone else's fault.

Nope. The Vernors just floated around on top of all that grease.  Not enough acid. Need a good old Coke.

So what I needed was more acid to stop the acid reflux? Â

Now you've got it. Got to bust up all that grease and fat. Â
Fried, greasy, and fatty foods can all cause heartburn and lead to reflux because they prevent the lower esophageal sphincter from fully tightening; this creates an opening for stomach acids to flow upward. Greasy, heavier foods are also harder to digest; so the stomach empties more slowly, which can trigger heartburn.

Hey, hey, hey, we're talking Spam and acid reflux here. What do you think this is your thread or something? Â

I actually made a point of mentioning that to my kid last night. My guess is it kind of began with WWII, and the crap they fed the soldiers, and it just stuck?

McDonalds in Hawaii offers Spam breakfast sandwiches.
I wouldn't say it's HUGE there, but I think the locals like it. You don't see it offered by sit down restaurants that I have noticed.
It goes well, sort of, with pineapple.

The wife saw a nerve guy this morning who thinks she has a pinched nerve on her lower spine area. She's due for an MRI later this week.
I don't know what they could do if she has said pinched nerve.
