Man gets 99 years in jail for kicking police officer

DENISON, Tex. (KXII) - The jury handed down 99 years, after repeat offender Donnie Mills assaulted a Denison police officer in April.

Donnie Mills, 59, will spend 99 years in prison for assaulting a Denison Police officer.
Bodycam footage showed the moment he kicked Officer Chris Bell back in April as he was getting loaded on a gurney inside a local hospital.

Moments later Mills was placed on a gurney for a blood sample, that was when he kicked Mills in the face.

Bell was not seriously hurt and did not need medical attention.

The judge in the murder trial of Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer sentenced to 10 years for fatally shooting her neighbor, caused a stir Wednesday when she hugged the convicted killer after the sentencing.
While some praised the move as a demonstration of religious faith, others -- including former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill -- criticized the judge's action as "unacceptable."

Guyger, a four-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, had been fired and charged with manslaughter after she entered Botham Jean's apartment on Sept. 6, 2018, thinking it was her own and shot him twice, killing him. She was indicted on a murder charge two months later.

This was not Mills†first run-in with the law. He has been to prison for drugs, burglary, aggravated assault on a public servant and felony DWI.

"He has a 40-year criminal history going back starting in 1979 with his first DWI, and he has been to the penitentiary for five different felonies," said Assistant District Attorney Don Hoover.

Correct and he has paid his debt to society for his previous crimes.

Pitch distorting and lying again.  He did not get 99 years for kicking a police officer.  He got the sentence he got because of all this:

This was not Mills†first run-in with the law. He has been to prison for drugs, burglary, aggravated assault on a public servant and felony DWI.

"He has a 40-year criminal history going back starting in 1979 with his first DWI, and he has been to the penitentiary for five different felonies," said Assistant District Attorney Don Hoover.

Prior convictions are an important part of sentencing for new crimes.

what the repeat offender laws do is essentially say that the offender has not learned their lesson from past crimes and punishments and keep upping the ante for the offender.

I did this with my kids. It worked quite well for them.

A "career criminal" is going to face longer sentences for the same crime relative to a first time offender.

It's in the statute.

Does anyone but Pitch actually believe society isn't better with that POS off the street for good?  This actually needs to be done with everyone who has that type of criminal record.

Donnie Mills has killed nobody , yet will spend the rest of his life in prison. A police officer walks into another man's home, murders him, and gets a hug from the judge and a 10-year sentence.

Does anyone think he gets this sentence if he didn't barely kick a police officer?

when you abuse facts and ignore other facts, you end up with the opinions you hold.
