My mother could not afford to pay for school lunches. There were 4 of us that were not teens. I never missed a single day of school and my only lunch was an apple. Still got straight A's and killed it on recess and in gym class. My younger siblings did pack a sandwich and an apple for lunch. I didn't like peanut butter or jelly sandwiches.
I think school lunch was $.35 white milk $.05 and chocolate milk $.10. School stopped selling orange juice sometime between 1977 and 1980.
I do agree with your post. In today's environment <---there's that word again, there is no excuse for any kid going hungry.
You had good parenting. I remember when we paid 2 cents for a milk in school.
I recall 2 pennies for white milk 3 pennies for chocolate milk and 5 pennies for orange juice. My best friend Nick was drinking one of each every single day. I thought he'd die by the end of the school year.Â
The America, and the American Military, that you once knew is gone.
