Leviticus 25, God's apparent endorsement of slavery
#1
Can anyone refute that, based on scripture, God supported slavery?

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

You didn't even pick the best verse. the best one is where instructions are given to slave owners on how they are to beat their slaves and when they are accountable if they beat a slave to death.

King James or bust.

44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.

Its a complex issue.  People became enslaved and servants in a variety of ways.  Some even sold themselves into slavery.  Some became slaves because of debt or even captured in wars.  Its not like the Jews went out into the world to catch slaves and bring them home.  What is God actually saying?  Is he really endorsing slavery or just setting rules for the reality of the situation.  I don't think God endorsed divorce either but he did set up guidelines for the reality of divorce in a fallen world.

It was common in the times therefore God set rules for the Israelites to adhere by.
God is God. He is NOT politically correct. He can do what he wants.

Why didn't God tell them that owning slaves was not permitted?

God used 4 of the 10 commandments telling man how to kiss his celestial ass. He could have pointed out that we shouldn't own people, we shouldn't diddle children (c'mon Catholics!), etc...

Slavery in biblical times was more about economics than race.  Many sold themselves to pay for debts they accumulated.  It wasn't until about the 16th centuries that slavery became race based.

You have no clue what you are saying.

This is why on some things I think the best recourse is to ignore.  No reason to respond actually.  You won't change his mind and he won't change yours either.

Owning people was addressed in the golden rule, and boinking bois was addressed in the condemnation of homosexuality; a sin next to murder.
