I did find best way to describe it and went to their site.  Whatâ€s the big deal to help posters get better understanding ?  And Iâ€ve drunk those buds strawberry or grape before for a cheap grab at Kroger on hot summer night.  8%.  Couple bucks.  Wow.  Must be in bad mood or butt hurt

Wednesday night outing consisted of my favorite house IPA, Dundee IPA  at my local sports pub brewed by Monnick, a great local brew pub. Keep in mind I had a choice of Zombie Dust on tap which has a 100 rating on Ratebeer or this. Downed 3 to 4 pints  before heading home for some  Mile Wide' Brabble, another local beer (blonde ale) from maybe the best local brewer, Mile Wide Brewing. IMO, Dundee IPA, brewed by Monnick, is the best IPA in the world and you can't get it.

I chuckle at the concept of reading a magazine to be told what beer etc. we SHOULD like. Confirmation bias is going to kick in from that point.
If you taste these whatevers blind, which I would do when I was in the biz, you might find you like what you didn't think you liked.
The label has a HUGE influence over us when it comes to things like taste.

Does someone actually do that? I live in an area that has an abundance of different pubs, craft breweries and beers and the taps are constantly changing. Before trying something I am not sure about I usually go to one of the beer review sites just to see how its rated. Does that always work? No, but if something is extraordinarily good or bad based on the ratings, I'd like to know before plunking down my 6-8 dollars.

A good score tonight at Target. Went for cat food and walked through the liquor section to see that they just placed 6 bottles of Eagle Rare in the bin. Another one that is getting a little hard to find these days but I just took one bottle. I know the others will either be gone before the night is over or by first thing tomorrow. I guess we shouldn't like any reviews about anything then.
Why should reviews/ratings or critical analysis exist about anything? Grades too?
I suppose judging something being great/good/meh/blah annoys you.
P.S. I was in the biz for many years too.

I think SOME reviews are useful, like SOME car reviews for example. They lay out a quasi-expert opinion about vehicles and one can read them and assess how important those features are for you. But, if you buy a car solely because it made C&D's 10 best list, you missed the point in my opinion.
If you buy a wine because it made Spectator's Top 100 list, you are falling for a marketing gimmick and buying what someone tells you is qualitatively better than something else, with a price that often goes UP when a wine makes said list.
When it comes to TASTE, we're all different, and what I enjoy could well be quite different from what Robert Parker likes. And the way to find out is blind tasting, not reading magazines.

I still like Crown green Apple. Yummy.
I have been a little under the weather and on some meds so I will not mix. In short I am dry this weekend.
Be warned, I may be grouchy.

After a great night of beer drinking at my nearby pub of Dundee IPA, home now after supper and drinking some Eagle Rare on ice. Forgot what a nice smooth bourbon this was. Sort of like Blanton's but a little lighter. Great stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised by Coronado Never Better DIPA. $12.99 for 6-pack of 16oz cans. 8.1% abv.
Damn tasty and a damn good deal. Damn again!

The "dIPAs" around here seem to be in a contest to add more and more hops.
"If some is good, more is better" is not my style. I don't want something that blows my mind, I want something balanced and good.
This reminds me of the zinfandel wars where everyone was trying to make a higher and higher alcohol level. Yay, you hit 17%, can we quit now? I quit drinking zins. I think it's safe to go back now in some cases.

Adding hops at the beginning of the boil is for bittering.
Adding hops at the end of the boil is for aroma.
So, hoppiness and bitterness aren't always synonymous.
Your palate can only detect IBUs up to 100 or so. Basically, hops can only get so bitter.
