I just wake up easy. I take medicine to go to sleep and still wake up which means I may not get enough rest. But, I can get up at anytime of the night and have not used an alarm in decades and am never late for work. I'd rather stay in bed and in some cases if really tired I go back to sleep but the medicine helps. IF I get 7 hours or so of sleep I'm full of a good bit of energy. I slept well last night and will go to the gym after work and put in about 15 miles cardio and lift weights, too.

I can relate. I can tell myself what time I need to be awake and up and I am always within a few minutes. I did not use an alarm the last few years I worked. Never mattered what time I went to bed.

It's a bit of a curse.  I need rest to have a clear mind and part of the reason I take the medicine is I have tinnitus and I can't fall asleep easily due to the ringing in my ear.  I generally get the rest though and it helps me have a full day and my mind works well in terms of remembering things. I do notice when fatigued I don't remember well.

I hated getting up when I was working, it was a pain, I'd hit snooze 2-3 times each morning and then rush around. 6:30 AM was my target time to get up.
Now, I wake up at 5:30 to 6:00 AM every morning and am wide awake. The only real variable is how much I had to drink the night before, if I over did it a bit, I wake up earlier. I'm mostly limiting my alcohol intake on weekdays now, mostly. I don't have to get up now, but I do.
The wife is in a boot now as of yesterday's visit to her MD. It's apparently not sciatica any more, it's some muscle issues of some sort. I'm not sure she understands everything the doctor is telling her, maybe I should go in with her. At least now she is able to sleep, for a while she could barely sleep because of the pain.
We're headed to SF in ten days and I don't think she'll be able to walk more than a block or two. We used to walk miles daily.
Sleep is a very unusual thing for us, the biochemistry of it is not well understood at all last I checked.

Seems the alarm clock is going the way of the buggy whip in ZNH. I have never needed or used an alarm clock. I can pinpoint to the minute when I get up. If I want to get up at 0725 I get up at 0725.
I sleep between 4 and 5 hours. I do not need more. I'm healthy, fit, and no meds. I have more energy than anybody I know, always have been this way. I drove my poor mother up a wall starting at 0500Â
I have been in several sleep studies. When I'm told to go to sleep I fall asleep. I also wake up 4 or 5 hours later. It's not a falling asleep issue. The doctor who conducted the last sleep study told me some people simply do not need 7 or 8 hours of sleep. Their bodies know when to fall asleep and for how long. In my case, I agree.
When I retired I tried to sleep in and for 7 or 8 hours. Not happening. 0500 and I'm up. I stopped trying.Â

My enlarged prostate makes me get up 3 or maybe even 4 times a night to piss. Haven't had a good night's sleep in forever. Tried Flomax and the next step Avodart (sp?) and they did nothing to help.
Must be pressure on the bladder when laying down, as I can go forever during the day without having to go. Is it possible to sleep standing up?

Yes. I saw a dude do it daily in basic training. He also drooled. It all ended when he had to hold a 15lb rock above his head.
p.s. Yes, there is an actual 5:00 am.Â
