The Tenderloin District is where most of the homeless "reside".  The sidewalks are nearly covered with tents and people in chairs, not many pedestrians, duh.  It seemed 90% of the homeless I saw were located there, I don't know exactly why.  I did see some sporadic homeless in other areas.  The one's I noticed specifically when we were stopped were "out of it" mentally, delusional, sometimes jerking uncontrollably, other times just yelling at the sky (these were liberals).  I did not see a single Asian, but I probably missed a few, most were black or white.  There indeed were thousands.  As for feces in the streets, I can understand there would be some in that area but I did not see any.  The notion this is "all over SF" is completely a media fabrication, but the homeless issue is real.

Western SF is mostly residential.  Aside from a lot of blowing trash, it's clean and pristine, a lot of Victorian era looking homes 3-4 stories, no new construction.  The city is 7 miles by 7 miles and there isn't room for new buildings other than taking down old, and that isn't happening.  I saw some construction downtown.  Rents are high because it's desirable and supply is highly constrained.  My step son pays $3500 a month for an efficiency in a redone warehouse (the building has some nice amenities) in South Beach.  There are a couple large parks out west that are nice, still a lot of blowing trash.  It's windy.  The food scene is quite good of course, and not that expensive.  Gasoline was about $4 for premium except near the airport where it's higher.

On Monday I picked up a rental car and we headed to Sonoma county and did a lot of wine tours.  My buddy is a member at a lot of places and we had visits scheduled at a few others.  Kuleto was remarkable, in the middle of nowhere literally.  We hit up some places on the Silverado Trail in Napa that are our favorites.  Yes, I spent a bit of coin on it.  Regusci doesn't ship to retail any more so I can't get it here.

The next day we went around Sonoma County to some places that were good, Hartford Family had some nice stuff.  We stopped by Korbel for some photos, it's very pretty.  We had dinner Monday night at The Girl and the Fig which was really really good and not as expensive as I expected, I had heard about it before, thought it would be pricey.  Had no wine which helped keep the tab down.

Thursday were drive back to a motel near SFO and turned in the rental and finally are home.  I had a hamburger on the flight back because I had never had on on an airplane before, it was decent.  It smelled good while they were cooking, not sure how they did that.  I may have picked up a cold which is bad because we're leaving again in a week for Seattle.

Now I'm ready for some FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad one of our trips worked out. Our trip turned into a bust Sunday. I was going to post on it but I thought I'm negative enough these days.

Went out there last year for a visit. It's the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Mountains on one side, bay with Dark blue water that makes the waves stark white, on the other. Almost a constant 65 degrees. Absolutely beautiful from 10am to 5pm after that, foggy, Really foggy. Lol

Congrats to your son. DLI School is one of the best schools in all the military.

We're headed to Seattle Friday, and then an Alaskan cruise the next week, and then a tour of WA the following week.

The wife likes cruises.  This will be my 49th state (Alaska).

Nice.  I'm at 49.  Which one do you need?  I need Alaska.

North Dakota.

I was missing most of the NE states but when we went to Boston I caught them all.  I'm not sure why I'd make an effort to visit ND though.

I'm too far gone.

If you are at 49, why not just do it to complete the list?

My Grandma was born in Bismarck. Military daughter. No, I have not been there.

Cincy isn't into lists. I agree with this.

I've been to 48. SD and HI. I actually was on a tarmac sitting in a hot as hell C-130 for 8 hours in HI. I still do not count it as I did not step foot on the ground. We'll probably vacation in HI at some point. Maybe next year. I have no reason to go to SD. Not even to make it 50. I've been to ND and two things stood out. One, there are not a lot of trees. Two the folks there like chocolate covered potato chips. The family I'm friends with sends a box of chocolate covered potato chips every Xmas. I have never tried them. I politely thank them and say "They are delicious". The people I give them to do say they are delicious, so I'm covered.

I'm currently at 68 countries. Next year 5 new ones. India being the top dog. My goal is to get to 100. The plan is to end the new countries with Easter Island. Then I'm fine with flights from Singapore - Japan - S. Korea - Thailand - Italy until I cash in my chips someday.

Well you are way ahead of me. I'm at 2 countries.... USA and Canada  Smile

For "the states" as they say in Canada, I'd have to look at a map and do that. I don't consider me visiting LA during the Rodney King riots as an infant as "visiting California".

If I had to do it all again, I'd skip on visiting the states. Better to see the world than Racine, WI. At least how I see it.

Nothing wrong with visiting the US states AND seeing other nations.  I've done both and can say I really enjoy the US.  Michigan is one of the best states I've been to.  Thinking about my next trip for 2020 and may travel abroad.

Go to the UP. You will love it, Mackinac Island doesn't count.
