Travel Thread
I havenâ€t really been to Lusaka or Harare other than in transit so I canâ€t really say.

My gf would not go on a safari. She knows the word Hatari. She wasn't feeling well or I 'might' have talked her into it. She tends to get sick when we travel. Not sure if it's the food or the flight. It takes her a day or two to recover both leaving/returning.

I actually have done the safari thing. I wanted to do the capital thing this time around. She was ok with Harare but didn't like Lusaka.
Is there any tangible difference between Harare and Lusaka to an outsider? Less economic psychoticness in Zambia, but Mugabe finally died a month or two ago, so things might improve in Zimbabwe.

Not much if any. Harare seemed a better experience from hotels, food and transportation. Lusaka not so much.
DC is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is basic voter stupidity and economic ignorance.

Wife and I went to Hawaii last year. Me being a nerd I loved the Volcano tour. Too bad you can't go to Jagger Museum anymore after the eruptions. We were there about a month or so prior to all that.

Went to NOLA last weekend. WWII museum is phenomenal-best presentation of the Pacific combat experience and justification thereof you are going to find. Bourbon Street is what everyone says-drunken tourist insanity. The Mardi Gras factory was insane-the warehouse where they actually manufacture all the floats for Mardi Gras-a preview of the parade in about a month a so Locals are very friendly/cool-across all generations. The head on hot garlic shrimp I had were one of the best things I have ever eaten. If you dislike seafood or diverse groups of people drinking their asses off, you wouldn't like NOLA.

Went to NOLA about 15 years ago. Right before Katrina. Jackson Square was cool and eclectic, had young kids and don't drink so.......there you go. Didn't do the WWII museum, don't even know if it was there at that time. Wasn't age appropriate for my group, but sounds interesting, and my kids at this point would probably really enjoy it.

Haven't felt the desire to go back. Felt like a dirty city that thrived on depravity.

It wasnâ€t dirty and the people were super friendly, but it other ways it definitely is the kind of place that makes your average Southern Baptist type cringe-and the locals seem to relish that reputation. Iâ€ve heard much of the rest of Louisiana doesnâ€t like the place. They have a very nice casino, Iâ€d recommend it as a good alternative for Vegas if you the kind of person who enjoys going to Vegas

Mos Eisley is a great comparison.

generally speaking, i really don't like vacations to cities. Really don't like cities. Planning a trip for September that will be a circular route from Spokane WA down thru Hells Canyon, over to Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP and back over to Spokane. Much more to my liking.

Photo test run.
From the trip my daughter and I took to Switzerland and Spain last year.
Standing over the Limmat river in Zurich facing the Olde Towne area.

Street outside hotel in Zurich, filled with outdoor restaurants and tried a new one each night.
Favorite was the Olde Town Steakhouse. they brought out a filet partially cooked and it
had a super hot piece of marble that you could finish cooking it the way you liked with
some bernaise and other sauces. #1 steak I have ever had. Even the daughter woofed
one down (she likes her steak) and still talks about it.

Ate dinner at one of the places next to some guys wearing Auburn hats. I jokingly
said "roll tide' on my way by. After they eye rolls, told them I was an OSU guy and
hoped they beat Bama. They got a good laugh out of it anyways.
