I have hesitated to take the wife to see it for obvious reasons. I found discount tickets at Costco and bought them and we probably will go in July. My guess is she will think of it as something like a cross between Disneyland and Epcot, a sort of recreation, but maybe she'll like it, or just take it for what it really is.

I like the grounds. Last time I tried their wine it was truly heinous but maybe it's better now.

It's a beautiful place. Hard to believe someone back in the day had this built.

I look at houses like this....or even Stan Hywet in Akron where Seiberling lived......and for all the luxury and opulence, the houses look cold and dreadfully uncomfortable to actually live in.

Had I unlimited funds, I certainly would build something very different, much smaller of course, something I would find comfortable and usable. The grounds would be spectacular, and I'd like a 12 car garage and a 6,000 foot landing strip with plane garage.

It can be fun to speculate on what one might like, but it's obviously just dreaming, for me anyway. I like where I live now a lot, I really don't have a desire to "move up".

We get a magazine the previous owners got and it usually has the top 5 real estate properties in the area for sale. They can be eye popping, one condo a few blocks away is listed at $12 million. (The building is UC.)

For a condo. I wonder what the HOA fees are. I'd rather try and do some good for others anyway.

This place is near where we often stay in France and I've visited several times. I was thinking about AB's comments about how the places look cold, and this one does. The grounds are fascinating though.

On the night of August 17, 1661, Nicolas Fouquet hosted a lavish soirÃe to honor Louis XIV at his new estate, Vaux-le-Vicomte. Days earlier, Louis XIV had succumbed to Colbertâ€s scheming and made his decision to imprison Fouquet. Yet he walked through the gardens, dined, and watched a specially commissioned theatrical performance followed by enchanting fireworks, without revealing a word. Of this turn of affairs, the great author Voltaire would write “On August 17, at six in the evening Fouquet was King of France, at two in the morning, he was nobody.”

Three weeks later, Fouquet was arrested in Nantes by dâ€Artagnan, captain of the Kingâ€s musketeers, and brought before an extraordinary session of the court. The ‘trial of the century†dragged on but eventually the judges voted to have him banished from France. However, Louis XIV intervened, exercising his prerogative to overrule the judges – the only time in French history this has happened – and imposed a sentence of life imprisonment. Fouquet was incarcerated in Pignerol, where he died on March 23, 1680.

I always like the log cabin homes. I like the look and build quality and materials.

The previous owners had one of the three dens painted in this color. I left it alone for now.
DC is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is basic voter stupidity and economic ignorance.
