Beto announces he and wife are descended from slave owners.

To be fair, he had zero control of that. Not his fault. On the other hand... of course he is going to try and use that to gain sympathy votes.

Maize's article confirms something for me.....and Cincy has alluded to it. The Democratic heartbeat of the party is 'special interests'. Now, of course all political parties have this, but the Democratic Party is built on it. They've actually done a masterful job over several decades of balancing the disparate groups who, in other situations, would not have anything in common, but vote the same. With that said, the dominant special interest has been a moderate faction.....unions/blue collar workers, blacks.

Now, they have the shrill outer bands of the special interests taking over. Whether intentional or not, BO served to make this happen with his 'community activist' mentality. Bernie Sanders in 2016 pushed it farther out of the center and 2020 is serving to attempt to solidify the control on the outer bands.

At this point in history, I don't see that being a winning formula. As quickly as we are moving, maybe it will be in 10 years, but it isn't now. Thus the civil war in the D party that I argued about with HT several years ago. Who wins? The future of our country will depend on it.

Yes, we saw this coming.  I believe I used the word "implosion" on multiple occasions in the past.  It's happening now.  The wide tent got stretched too far.  The inevitability of greed.  I can already say with confidence, at least on an anecdotal level, that they've lost the baby boomer blue collar guy/retirees.  I know the left doesn't care now because those people are aging and disappearing like all humans eventually do, but they're by extension likely losing those people's kids as well.

Blue collar folk are becoming Trump people.  Not necessarily GOP people, but they've definitely swung to Trump.  And if the Dem party continues with the nutty nonsense, they risk losing those people forever.   So on that note, I don't know how the Dems make the math work for them.  Unless they rip open the borders entirely and remake/"transform" this country, I don't see how they get the midwest back for a while.

It's amazing when you really think about it.  If they can't win you over with ideas and policies, they'll just replace you with new voters until they get their way.  Think about that.  This is what I think many average Americans have yet to catch onto.  The left is stealing your vote.  They no longer respect you in the least.  They're done with trying to win hearts and minds; they'll just stuff the ballot box any way they can.  Illegal immigration is definitely one of the planks of that platform.  Yes they'll always have the deep blue states (at least until they implode financially), but they are working on replacing you and me at this very moment.  24/7/365.

Dems are about power.   The used unions to bolster ranks to maintain and grow power in latter part of the 19th century and into the 20th.  They used the unions to gain millions which ultimately were stolen and misused by union leaders.
The dems moved to using blacks.   Gain their vote while ignoring the past where the dems in and about the civil war supported slavery and opposed 13-14-15 amendments.   Just used them and still are crying racism to keep the vote while not offering any real plan to help them.
The dems moved to LGBTQ to gain their vote.  Sympathy and we're on your side in this battle against those who hate you.
Now it's illegals.  Gain their vote.  We support you.  Here, look, we'll give you healthcare and protection and the vote.   We are on your side.

It's all about getting votes and power while really not offering the austere plans needed to fix anything.  They are the party of ruination.

The left has no platform, it uses different groups to pander to. Either in freebies or victim hood.

The current version is bashing Trump. Attack the opponent because they can't promote an empty platform.
DC is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is basic voter stupidity and economic ignorance.

I "get" parts of the platform, like Medicare for All. I can see how that can seem appealing, to some. I get higher taxes on whoever. I get doing "something" about climate change. I don't agree with the priorities, but I can understand how they could appeal to folks.

But, the thing about illegals gets wonky in a hurry. Somebody is going to be out there saying "I didn't mean that that way."

Free health care for illegals? That one won't resonate with any beyond devoted Leftists. Open borders? Explain that one to me.

Lets be honest about the republican party as well.  They are bunch of weak losers who won't stand up and fight due to fear of media attacks.  Pathetic.

Of course they are.  They love to be contrarian to speak to their 'principles', but then few ever actually act on the principles that they stand on.......spending cuts, smaller government, alternatives to ACA, and the list goes on and on.

Point of the recent argument is though that Republicans have fewer 'groups' within the tent, and there is much more overlap of interest between them.

I have found it very interesting to see the nomenclature used by progressives change so rapidly in order to foster a grouping of traditionally disparate groups. POC, or people of color, is the accepted term by almost everyone in politics and media now ( nevermind that is exactly the same as saying the verboten words 'colored people') and it lumps everybody not white into a convenient group that can be pandered to en masse. It is a clever strategy straight from the Intersectionality textbooks, although it seems painfully transparent to me what the goal is. They know they cannot win by addressing the different concerns of Asians, Native Americans, Blacks and Hispanics etc, individually so the ploy is to make all of those groups think they are victims of some mythical white conspiracy to keep them down. It also has the added benefit of conveniently absolving the largest minority voting bloc, Hispanics, of their own past history of oppression, slavery and conquest. This is not to suggest that there is a cabal of left wingers sitting in a bunker directing some overarching control of media, politicians and voters. I do think there has been rapid acceptance because of its efficacy and simplicity.

I think there is evidence of a "white conspiracy" to keep some Asians down.

Could you expand on that?
