Mexico caves: immigration news......
#16
Leave it to the liberal NY TIMES...I like this part of the piece

During a phone call Friday evening when he was briefed on the agreement, Mr. Trump quizzed his lawyers, diplomats and immigration officials about whether they thought the deal would work. His aides said yes, but admitted that they were also realistic that the surge of immigration might continue.

Uh, that's ILLEGAL immigration.  Guess they don't know the difference.

... according to officials from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations.

But they just now have deployed the troops to their southern border, and just now stopped a caravan of 1000.  The media will never give Trump credit for anything.

Thatâ€s besides the point. Being, this was announced as a breakthrough in negotiations but was actually agreed upon months ago, per the report. Spin.

I knew it was agreed upon months ago by merely watching the news.  The Times' attempt here at Gotcha! is typical of what I would expect from them.  Like I said, the tariff talk is likely a ploy to get them to follow through on earlier promises because *CLEARLY* they have not done so since those earlier token efforts started.

Gotcha? You mean calling him/the administration on bs? The WH tried to spin some “news”, the NYT called bulls hit. Does it matter that they donâ€t like Trump? It didnâ€t matter when Fox, Breitbart, the Daily Caller, JWatch, etc. didnâ€t like Obama. Why does it matter that itâ€s the NYT?

It's likely not BS as Mexico was clearly not following through on earlier promises.  I mean, are we really to the point now where semantics are the news of the day?  So the administration should have said "Mexico reaffirmed their earlier commitment at border security..."

To me it's the outcome that matters.   The NYT lives in the world of spin.  Perhaps team Trump was spinning, perhaps they weren't (not purposely).  I personally don't care because I clearly remember the earlier commitment that Mexico was CLEARLY NOT following through on.  Yet it's Trump that's the problem here?

Personally I don't give a damn.  Let the NYT have their small victory.  I just hope these tariff threats will have Mexico following through on an earlier promise, because they clearly were not following through on it as of late.

Of course the US and Mexico have been talking about doing 'something' for years. The dude who coordinates the caravan and tells the people to lie to get asylum was arrested months ago by the Mexican government. However, The only thing that got Mexico's attention was tariffs. They know Trump would use them. This is why the left immediately came out and said Trump was bluffing. They know asshats believe their lies.
The America, and the American Military, that you once knew is gone.

I can't discern Truth in this. Perhaps Mexico was already doing stuff. Perhaps they now are doing it faster. Perhaps this was just some fake and nothing changed.

Edit: The stock markets like the deal, probably just because they don't like tariffs and fell on the news back when. They are reacting to trade news and Fed news almost exclusively, it seems to me.

I don't see how anyone could like Trump's tariffs.

A steel company based on US production might like steel tariffs, etc.

His use of tariffs as a "hammer" was abetted by Congress years ago. Congress in many ways has abdicated their "control" over legislation and given it to the Administration, and then they complain.

Tariffs are "baked" in. This deal will not affect the market much, if at all.

I agee congress has long ago abdicated it's power and responsibility to the presidency. No president should be able to single handedly cripple any industry with tariffs like this president has with the farming industry.

Market watchers claim all this tariff news moves the markets, a lot, up or down, and the up and down moves seem coincident with news on tariffs (and the Fed).

It doesn't.

On the one hand, we have various news sites connecting tariff news with market moves, last week and this, versus some unknown Internet "expert" who claims otherwise. I think I'll go with the news items, especially as the up and down moves do correlate with tariff news.
