Perhaps you're ignorant of how lobbying and the use of subsidies results in the government "taking sides" every day in propping up one private business over another. Did Obama offer your company the same millions of dollars of loan guarantees that he handed over to his pet company Solyndra? Did he offer those incredibly costly guarantees - funded by U.S. taxpayers - to Solyndra's competitors? If you want to start up a biased media company, do you think the government will funnel a bunch of funding your way like they do with NPR (but don't do with NPR competitors)? If you want to privately refine your own oil and sell the gasoline, do you think the government will give you a cost advantage by subsidizing your production like they do with ethanol providers?
None of this daily picking of private company winners and losers - i.e. "taking sides" - by the government is in any way subtle or apolitical. And it's all out there in full public view. It's not new. It's not different. It's been done under Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, and as far back as you want to go. I don't recall you gnashing your teeth about it in the slightest, but I may have missed it.
