Yes, of course politicians are using the science.

Yes, of course these are hard sciences and there are very well meaning scientists putting in good work.

But the whole 97% scientist support figure is baloney and there are multiple examples of how the numbers were jiggered to prove conclusions.

All three of those negatives indicate that they don't have a compelling argument and that the conclusions are manufactured TO SOME DEGREE.

Not really. Whether politicians use the science wrongly is irrelevant to it's conclusions. Whether someone says 97% or 98% or whatever is also irrelevant. I've seen no evidence of actual data manipulation by scientists. If it exists guess who it would be finding that out and calling it out?

The ones depending on grants?  Yeah, I'm sure.....

Virtually all scientists depend on grants of one sort or another. There usually is no political slant to getting a grant.

Actually disproving anything that is currently held to be happening by scientists in any field is considered a massive coup. Yes they will meet mighty resistance but anyone actually putting together a case they think they can back up will usually do so with gusto. They love nothing better than pushing pins into the balloons of others should the opportunity arise.

OK then. There is no influence using money as leverage, there is no graft here, everyone is on the up and up.....so why aren't ya'll more concerned about GW?

Cuz currently there is no viable solution. I can't think of any scenario where we can have enough of an impact in time to make any difference whatsoever.
IOW c'est la vie.

I'm concerned, but mainly just hoping the models are off in the favorable way, which is possible. We really can't do much about it in any realistic sense. A crash program to build nukes might do something, but the world is the problem, not just the US.

Europe is doing worse than the US is.

“Until now, all weâ€ve seen is Republicans denying climate change is real and Democrats pushing back based on science. And thatâ€s not enough.”
For Elizabeth Schuster, energy policy manager at Food and Water Watch, the change in messaging in Congress has been night and day.
“Iâ€ve never seen anything like it. Although they were slowed by the shutdown, the [Democratic leadership] created the House Select Committee on Climate Crisis, the House was able to hold hearings on climate change, itâ€s a big welcome change,” she said.
“Climate and energy has finally moved to the top of the conversation, which is very exciting for us who have worked in this space for a long time.”

I think politically they are misreading this as an issue BIG TIME. I think folks will say they want something done in vague terms in polling, but when it comes down to higher costs/taxes, they grow cold, and don't like it.

This is one reason the Democrats have not proposed anything substantive.

Its pointless for Democrats to push specific proposals until they take over the government.  Once they do, then the vague insanity will become specific and real.
"Hightop can reduce an entire message board of men to mudsharks. It's actually pretty funny to watch."
