I read somewhere that UC blitzed 85% of the time which seems excessively high. So, the TE's may have kept in for blocking purposes.
As you mentioned, the game plan changed from week 1. His presser today regarding Fields, patterns and play calling:
Q: I think you mentioned this after the game, it does seem apparent, you're maybe not doing as much of the crossers in the passing game as you did last year, two years ago. Is that just a product of your personnel, how teams are defending you, wanting to try new stuff?
RYAN DAY: Like I said, we have our whole offense in. What we focus on, what we decide to give Justin is based on a game plan deal. But it's also based on the fact he's only played two games.
We have buckets of plays. One of them is what you're talking about. We have all those. We have them all. When the time is right, we'll use them. That hasn't been the right game plan that we think in those first couple games.
We'll continue to install those things as the time is right and we feel like the scheme fits. We have been seeing a lot more zone recently. So we'll just keep rolling from there.

More like Pooh Bear defensive front.

More like Pooh Bear defensive front. UC was just smashed. No question about it.

The other point to be made is judging these college teams until you see them play several games. Very tough to do.  How many thought Clemson would beat the hell out of Alabama last year even after seeing them play 13 games or so?

Ohio State coach Ryan Day met with the media following the conclusion of his weekly radio show this afternoon. He shared his final public comments before Saturdayâ€s Big Ten opener at Indiana (noon, FOX). Check out the video above.
Here were some of the high points from Dayâ€s media session:
* On what Day will learn about his team from playing Indiana – “Certainly, we will have a better idea as we go. When you get into conference play, everything ramps up. Each week, you will find out more about your team. This is the next step. I thought we took a good step last week (against Cincinnati), but now this is even more important since we are playing within the conference.
“The competition will be high. It will be a tough game and we know that. Weâ€ve got to play well. The more you play, the better idea you have of what kind of team you have.â€
* On freshman WR Garrett Wilson having his best week of practice – “That was his work ethic, attention to detail, preparation physically, mentally and emotionally and then performance on the field.â€
* On going back to Bloomington, where Day coached his first game at OSU as an assistant in 2017 – “That was tough, that first half. Then we kind of got it going in the second half. That was a very emotional game. It was a hot game. The crowd there was really good. They were coming at us fast and furious early in that game and scoring some points on us.
“We missed a couple times there in the red zone and then we hit some big plays. Parris (Campbell) hit a big run, a big run and catch. I think J.K. (Dobbins) had a big night that night.
“It was the first time Kevin (Wilson) and I were working together in the booth, trying to figure it all out. That was not easy. Anytime you go on the road and play in a conference game itâ€s hard. Kevin is three years removed from that and the focus is more about us.â€
* On which position group is further along than he thought they would be – “I donâ€t know if anybody is further along than I thought. There are a lot of visions that you have and what you want as you moved forward. We are only two games in, so itâ€s hard to tell.
“It was good to see our offensive line come off the ball and for us to run the ball like that. Itâ€s been good to see our defense run around, especially the linebackers, and the physicality and tackling and hitting and running to the ball and being productive.â€
* On preparing for QBs Michael Penix Jr. (gametime decision) and Peyton Ramsey – “Weâ€ve been preparing that way all along anyway. Ramsey is a good player. We saw that before. He played good against us last year. Penix is a young, talented guy. Weâ€ve been preparing for both of those guys here all along. Both guys bring different things to the table.
“I donâ€t know how itâ€s all going to play out. You have to be ready for both and have a plan ready for both.â€
* On freshman OL Harry Miller – “Harry is doing good. As a freshman, one of the hardest places to play up front is center. Youâ€re making all the calls. Heâ€s very intelligent. When you donâ€t notice them in practice, heâ€s doing a good job. You donâ€t notice him in practice. The second team gets out there or he jumps in with the ones and we just kind of get going. Thatâ€s a tribute to him and his ability to take a bunch of new information and process it on the field.
“Itâ€s very rare to see someone his age being able to work at his level right now. You look at Josh Myers. Heâ€s playing well and playing at a high level. It took a little while for him to get there. It takes time. There is so much communication and you have to snap the football before you block somebody. Itâ€s very different. Tribute to him, heâ€s off to a great start.â€
* Day indicated that they may know about DE Jonathon Cooperâ€s status after todayâ€s practice. His availability will be listed in Fridayâ€s weekly report. He has missed the first two games with an ankle injury.
* On Dobbins†improvement in Week 2 – “I thought J.K. ran hard. It wasnâ€t clean the first week. I thought it was a little bit better. The blocking schemes had something to do with that as well. He was running with his pads down. He was running hard and he was running physical.
“I thought he had one or two excellent blocks as well. One time, there was a defensive end and they got us in a pretty good scheme. The end was running through the A gap and we stoned them on the line of scrimmage. Then on Justin Fields†run, he comes and cuts that linebacker. It was an all around game.
“I think when he plays at that level, he is one of the best backs in the country.â€
* Day indicated there has been no decision on whether freshman OL Dawand Jones will burn his redshirt this season. The 6-8 Jones appeared on the field goal block team against Cincinnati.
“Heâ€s a weapon, for sure,†Day said. “It makes a difference when he is out there. Heâ€s 6-8 and 370 pounds. Chase was able to get through (for a block). We wonâ€t be foolish about it. We will be smart and make the best decisions weekly on what weâ€re seeing.
“We donâ€t want to burn his redshirt on field goal blocks … but if we think it will win us a game weâ€ll do

LB play was horrible the last two years. Now, they might be the strongest unit on the defense. Same guys as last year and yet they are not the same players. Makes me wonder what UM saw in Schiano, Bill Davis, and the rest.

Loyalty... Bad Coaching But Good Friends..?
Rabert Landers didn't start and didn't play until the 3rd series. Don't know what that means, if anything. He's one of my favorite players.

If not this year ....
OSU looks better than I expected, thus far, but against over matched teams (which is true for most teams of course).

I am really shocked at the way UM has played TO THIS POINT.  They may improve as there are months to go till the two teams play, but I'm impressed at how good OSU plays. IF OSU mauls Nebraska it won't bode well for the rest of the league.
