Fields is habituated to running.  He ran in HS where he was a 220 pounder running over 200 pound LBs.  He largely ran at UGA by design.  It's deep in his mind.  It's just a thing that has to be limited, which I'm sure can be done, but it might take a couple of games.  He'll learn to scramble to keep a play alive instead of going downfield unless he can see a path to the sideline.  College LBs hit harder, duh.  He needs to avoid that contact.

He has a very good arm.  Bear in mind that quite a few Dawg fans thought he would beat out Fromm last year based on the Spring Game.  Fields thought he would beat out Fromm, or at least be used more often than he was.  This is the only "weakness" I see in his game, other than needing more experience.

Like any habit, it takes effort to break, and I expect at times he will revert.

I read somewhere he was named unofficially last spring, or something.

The preseason polls are, well, pointless really, just something to chat about.  Whether your team is 1, 3, 7, 10, doesn't matter.

Missouri may get to 8-0.  Florida and Miami play Saturday night.  Tennessee might be back, to a bowl game.  Their OOC slate is ridiculous.

I glance at the UGA sites about this time of year and the story is always the same:

1.  The players are really tight this year and working hard.
2.  They really love the coaches, the new coaches are fitting right in.
3.  Three freshmen are tearing it up in practice.
4.  The RB injured last year looks really good.
5.  The backup QB looks really good.
6.  Everyone is hungry and ready to get started.

The truth is that August is Michigan's time.

Gosh, this looks a lot like what I hear about OSU.  What are the odds?

Yup, I ignore it, or nearly all of it.  I suspect we forget when some freshman has a lot of preseason hype and then barely sees the field.  And yes, at times they do contribute majorly of course.

OSU has a ton of talent, enough to beat everyone on their schedule, and 2-3-4 games will be "50-50 games".  That is true for most of the top teams other than Clemson.  Maybe Clemson has 2 "50-50" games, maybe, not quite.

A top team needs to "hold serve" against the Purdues and Iowas and NWs and then compete and win most of the 50-50 games.  12-1 will do it if the 1 isn't the CG, usually, last year was an oddity.

Something to think about with Fields, Trevor Lawrence and other top qb comparions so far.

Fields and Trevor Lawrence both in same class in Georgia. This will be Fields 19th career start since 9th grade, Lawrence will be at 68 starts with game one this year. Both are Alpha players and difference makers. Fields has a lot of ceiling left here to grow.. https://twitter.com/247Sports/status/116...9482927104 …

Absolutely silly to compare these two kids at this point. As a true freshman, one kid led his team to a National Championship and carved up a dynasty level defense in the process. The other kid has accomplished essentially NOTHING at the collegiate level.  They are in no way comparable at this point.

Ohio State junior running back J.K. Dobbins was pleasantly surprised to be named a team captain on Monday morning.
First-year head coach Ryan Day had the team vote on the captains over the weekend and he introduced the group before Mondayâ€s practice. Dobbins is joined by classmate and defensive end Chase Young as the only other junior captain. The senior captains are WR K.J. Hill, safety Jordan Fuller, LB Tuf Borland, DE Jonathon Cooper and WR C.J. Saunders.
The 5-10, 217-pound Dobbins is back for his third season as OSUâ€s starting running back. He has earned his teamâ€s respect this off-season as being a leader during spring and summer workouts.

at Nebraska, Sept. 28
Considering the potential set-up for this game at the end of September, the Buckeyes could be heading into a lion's den at a sold-out Memorial Stadium with College GameDay in town for the first time in more than a decade. The Huskers bring back the bulk of a team that won four of their final six games after starting the season 0-6 with an awakening after a deflating 46-point loss at Michigan. Scott Frost challenged his players and asked them who they wanted to do be and the team responded. Quarterback Adrian Martinez is one of the Heisman frontrunners coming off a spectacular freshman season with an individual standpoint.
"Whenever you have coach Frost and this offensive staff, I think the sky's the limit," Martinez said after setting a school record with seven games with 300 yards of total offense or more. "And obviously we have a lot of guys returning, so it'll be interesting to see what we're capable of next year."
Nebraska returns three starters along the offensive line and the core of its front seven defensively, two areas that will dictate whether or not the Huskers have staying power in 2019. Last season's narrow 35-31 loss at Ohio State was definitely a confidence boost for a program in transition.

at Michigan, Nov. 30

Ok, maybe not everyone, but the experts in Vegas don't think the Buckeyes will continue their winning streak against the Wolverines this season. As if the rivalry could be anymore heated after Ohio State's nuked Michigan's special season last fall with a 62-39 pasting in Columbus, two Wolverines assistants left the program this offseason for positions on Day's staff. If you can't beat them, join them, right? It was a tough-to-stomach reality for Michigan supporters, who haven't seen their team beat the Buckeyes since the 2011 season and 14 of the past 15 meetings overall. Whether it's fair or not, Day has big shoes to fill following Meyer's departure and how he performs against Ohio State's primary rivals will be a decisive barometer. He has already mentioned The Game always being the centerpiece of the Buckeyes' season and Jim Harbaugh will have his sights set on ending his own personal struggles against Ohio State at the same time.

I think the common reasoning for picking UM this year is:

1) OSU has a new QB and HC
2) UM has a senior QB
3) Harbaugh is too good of a coach to lose 5 straight to us ISN'T HE???????
